Description

The artist Bian Shoumin is known for his depiction of wild geese, water, and reeds. The migrant birds in autumn and winter evoked, in the minds of the Chinese intelligentsia, a time of parting and sorrow.
A horizontally oriented album leaf features fourteen vertical columns of black calligraphy on off-white paper. The characters are arranged within a light red-lined rectangular grid, centered amidst wide, plain margins. In the lower-left corner sit two square red seals below the final column of text. The dark ink is crisp and precise, neatly contained within the orderly, fine-lined boxes of the grid.
