Description

This donation was unusual because it included many prints by one artist: eleven single sheets and two books illustrated by Brouet (containing a total of 96 etchings). The result is a comprehensive survey of the artist's work.
A horizontally oriented print in black ink depicts an industrial landscape. Tall smokestacks rise on our left, while another on our right releases a thick, dark plume of smoke. Factory buildings with slanted roofs fill the middle ground behind utility poles and wires. Billowing clouds, rendered with hatching and tonal shading, fill the sky. Vertical and horizontal lines texture the scene against the cream paper. Handwritten numbers and a signature appear in the lower margins.
