Description

Dow carved these blocks, two of them on both sides, for Dragon and Orchard. Influenced by his own cyanotypes (an early photographic process that produced blue images), he printed this impression, a nocturnal version, in ten shades of blue.
A vertically oriented woodblock features a central horizontal rectangle carved into a warm, striated surface. Muted green ink stains form a series of rounded, vertical shapes across the middle, bleeding into the brown grain. Strips of cream tape sit at the top left and in an L-shape near the bottom left. Faint pencil lines define a rectangular border framing the composition, emphasizing the natural texture of the aged wood.
