A vertically oriented hanging scroll with black ink on tan paper sparsely depicts a bird perched on a lotus bud. The bird, rendered in gray washes, faces right with its long tail pointing down. It sits atop a thin, curving stem. Much of the background remains blank. To the left, Japanese calligraphy and a red seal appear at mid-height. The scroll is bordered by blue fabric with a gold pattern.
