The vertical yellow marks on their foreheads reveal that they are followers of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Description

Most paintings of this scene show two warriors in active swordplay combat. Here the two warriors hold their swords and shields, probably in the moments before their competition begins.
A vertically oriented tempera painting depicts two men with medium-light skin tones seated on a green rug patterned with white and orange flowers. Facing each other, the figure in a green tunic holds a bow while the other in white holds a sheathed sword. A black shield rests between them as they lean against patterned bolsters before flowering trees. A cloudy sky sits above, all framed by a worn red border with white script.
