Description

While Radha waits for Krishna in her bower, he is flirting with other women of the cowherding community. Like a fickle lover, sometimes god abandons his devotee and showers blessings on others. Radha's companion comes to bring her the news of Krishna's playful, erotic activities.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting depicts the blue-skinned god Krishna standing center, his four arms embracing women with medium-light skin tones. Above him, black script fills a yellow band. Seven women in patterned red, blue, and yellow garments surround Krishna amidst stylized trees and birds. Below, two additional women sit within a red-arched niche beside a dark river flowing toward our left.
