Description

This cross-section of a building allows a unique view into a French royal wedding. The partiers are dressed in costume and dance in the Parisian town hall. No expense was spared in the lavish celebration, from flowers to drinks to the elaborate false ceiling painted to look like the sky.
A horizontally oriented pen and ink drawing with gray wash depicts a cross-section of a grand building. Centered, dozens of people dance in a courtyard. The cutaway reveals wooden scaffolding above and foundation chambers below. Crowded stairs and tiered rooms flank the central space. A French inscription spans the bottom margin identifying the August 1739 event, while a label centered at the top reads "J.-F. BLONDEL."
