Description

Although this scene of a nude woman lounging in her bedchamber appears to be drawn with red chalk like the drawings by Greuze and Boucher nearby, it is actually a printed image. Chalk-manner etchings and engravings are made using special punches and rollers with teeth of various sizes set at irregular intervals to re-create the natural granular effects of chalk lines drawn on textured paper.
A vertically oriented print in red ink depicts a woman with light skin tone sitting on a bed, facing right while holding a garment. To her left, another woman with light skin tone peers from behind a draped curtain. A cat rests on the floor in the lower right. Below the central image, a coat of arms and printed text appear in the margin, all enclosed within a rectangular border.
