Description

This print was published in the journal La Caricature (No. 218, January 8, 1835) as plate 454.
A horizontally oriented lithograph in black ink depicts Demosthenes, a man with a light skin tone, draped in a dark, voluminous robe. Standing on our right with arms raised, he faces a crowd peering over a ledge. The men have furrowed brows; one wears a hat labeled "CONST." French text below reads, "Atheniens prenez garde à Philippe!" and "(Demosthènes aux Athéniens)." Heavy shadows stretch across the ground beneath him.
