Description

This print was published in Le Charivari (June 19, 1856) as plate 5 from the series Exposition of Animals.
A horizontally oriented lithograph in black ink on cream paper depicts a massive ox behind a railing on the left. On the right stands a group of caricatured people with light skin tones, elongated noses, and wide mouths. Dark, sketchy lines and heavy shading create a textured scene. French text at the top reads "L'EXPOSITION DES ANIMAUX," and a caption below identifies the creature as a "bœuf-éléphant."
