A vertically oriented oil painting depicts a man with medium-light skin tone seated in a dark study. Composed of soft, brushy layers, he faces us with legs crossed, wearing a brown jacket and red boots. His mouth is slightly agape, clutching a cigarette. To our left, a desk holds a black sculpture and newspaper. Framed artworks and a glass-encased sculpture adorn the dark red background, receding into deep shadows.
