Description

London Types celebrates the affection residents felt for their city at the end of the 19th century. The series includes many depictions of women because the publisher William Heinemann, a strong supporter of the struggle for equality, advised the artist to represent both sexes equally. The scenes document London of the 1890s with contemporary references.
A vertically oriented lithograph depicts a man standing, wearing a red tunic with thick black bands and a crown insignia. He wears a black hat with colored rosettes and a wide white ruff collar. He holds a staff with gloved hands against a muted gold background. In the lower right corner, a stone building with several towers rises against the sky.
