Description

This print was published in the magazine L’Assiette au Beurre (March 1, 1902 ) as plate 2 from the series Crimes and Punishments.
A vertically oriented lithograph features dense black silhouettes against a tan background. To our left, a stocky man with light skin tone and a fur-collared coat leans aggressively over a desk. To our right, a balding official reviews scattered papers and a red book. A poster labeled "LOI" hangs on the wall. Cursive French text at the bottom provides a satirical caption, rendered with thick, woodcut-style lines.
