Description

This print was published in the magazine L’Assiette au Beurre (March 1, 1902 ) as plate 21 from the series Crimes and Punishments.
A vertically oriented color lithograph depicts a youth with light skin tone seated at a table, head resting on his hand. A bearded man in black stands over him, gripping his shoulder and holding a bloodied cloth. Two shadowed gendarmes loom behind. Flat, bold planes of black ink define figures against golden-tan paper. Handwritten French text in the lower margin mandates expulsion from France, framed by a thick black border.
