A turquoise-glazed steatite, a soft stone hardened by firing, depicts an oval scarab beetle with a rounded, domed body. The sculpture features a ridged head and simplified limbs carved into its sides. Its bright turquoise surface is mottled with dark brown spots and a network of fine cracks. The form curves forward, highlighting the smooth glaze. Where details have been carved out, the recessed areas appear dark and textured.
