A cream-colored glazed steatite amulet mimics an oval, ridged shell. Cracks and brown stains weather the convex surface, where a vertical fissure reveals a dark gray-green core. Deeply carved diagonal lines swish across the edges in a rhythmic, feathered pattern. Chipped at both ends, the small, worn object stands upright, its aged surface showing intricate webs of fine scratches against a dark, shadowy backdrop.
