Did You Know?

This drawing is a preparatory sketch for United States currency, proposed during President Taft's administration.
A vertically oriented graphite drawing on tan paper depicts a man with light skin tone moving toward our right. He carries a large, roped bundle of grain across his back. He wears a belted tunic with a curved sickle tucked at his waist. Hatching and shading define his muscular legs and the texture of the grain. Drapery rests on the ground, and a signature appears at the bottom right.
