An iron sword guard, a dark circular disc, features three central openings: a narrow tapered slot flanked by two rounded apertures. The textured surface is worked in relief carvings of a landscape with jagged mountains, pine trees, and a curved bridge. Small buildings with tiered roofs sit on rocky slopes. Two vertical columns of Japanese calligraphy are incised on either side of the central opening within the charcoal-hued scene.
