A dark, grain-textured lithograph depicts a bust-length self-portrait of a seventeen-year-old man. Looking toward us, his body turns to our right. Dense black ink creates heavy shadows, causing his hair and clothing to recede into a dark background. Bright light sharply highlights the left side of his face. Cursive text at the bottom reads in part, "d'apres le portrait que j'ai fait de moi a l'age de 17 ans."
