Description

This print was published as plate 15 from the series Bohemians of Paris. Some examples of the print, like this one, have the title The pedestrian (La Marcheuse), while others used the title The Nurse (La Garde-malade).
A vertically oriented lithograph depicts an older woman with a light skin tone standing in a dark doorway. Facing our left with lips curved upward and hands clasped, she wears a hooded shawl and light apron over a dark dress. Dense, textured lithographic lines shade the composition, creating high contrast between the light on her wrinkled face and the deep shadows of the wall. Text below reads "LA MARCHEUSE" and "Psit !!!..."
