A vertically oriented drypoint print in black ink depicts James MacNeill Whistler, a man with a light skin tone. His head, crowned with dense dark curls, tilts toward our right. Rendered with fine cross-hatching and loose, sketchy lines, he wears a high-collared coat. A thick mustache spans his lip, and a circular monocle covers his right eye. Deep, overlapping shadows define his neck. A signature marks the lower right corner.
