Description

Note the rough, tan, clay bodies of these bowls with their deliberate irregularities. The design of branches was first painted in a black iron oxide, then the blossoms and buds in a white slip, followed by the application of a very thin transparent overglaze.
A set of five triangular stoneware bowls features a cream glaze transitioning to soft peach near the base. Spindly, dark brown iron oxide branches crisscross the outer surfaces, punctuated by small, raised white blossoms. A dark brown band trims the rim of each flat-bottomed vessel. Arranged in a horizontal row, the bowls vary in orientation, some facing forward while others are angled to reveal their depth and internal glaze.
