Description

Note the rough, tan, clay bodies of these bowls with their deliberate irregularities. The design of branches was first painted in a black iron oxide, then the blossoms and buds in a white slip, followed by the application of a very thin transparent overglaze.
A matte beige stoneware vessel takes a triangular form with one corner pointing forward. Dark brown lines streak vertically across the uneven walls like barren branches. Creamy circular slip blossoms cluster among the dark streaks, providing a soft contrast. A thin, dark line traces the top rim, defining the geometric shape. The three flat sides meet at slightly rounded corners, forming a deep container where rigid structure balances with painterly, organic decoration.
