Did You Know?

Designs on Nabeshima ware, like this dish, were often inspired by Japanese textiles.
A circular porcelain dish features a symmetrical geometric pattern in blue, red, and green enamel. Large blue-bordered circles enclose red serrated flowers with blue centers, connected by a delicate blue trellis. In the interstices, smaller red star-shaped blossoms are nestled within pale green leafy scrolls. The dense, interlocking motif repeats across the white ground, extending to the rim.
