Description

Produced during the last years of the Tudor dynasty (1485–1603), this vessel exemplifies the symmetrical patterns, horizontal designs, and clear division of space typical of English silverwork at the time. The functional shape and ornamental designs characteristic of standing cups made them ideal for ceremonial occasions.
A silver and gilt cup features an oval bowl and domed cover topped with a tiered finial. A short, shaped stem connects the vessel to a circular base. Engravings of scrolling vines and stylized flowers wrap around the light-gray surface, while horizontal bands of warm gold accent the lid and the body's center. These gilded accents contrast with the silver, highlighting the intricate foliate motifs that decorate the piece.
