Description

The large panel shown here was probably the end panel of a stall that faced another across the choir of a Gothic church. The panel depicts a seated pope, possibly Urban IV, who holds the keys of St. Peter and a book.
A dark-brown walnut wood sculpture depicts a fragmented choir stall panel. A rectangular base supports a circular frame featuring a seated figure in a pointed hat holding a cross-topped staff. A curved decorative rail leads to a vertical section with a climbing, fish-like creature with a curled tail and open mouth. The aged wood surface is marked with small holes and fine vertical lines, ending in a broken, jagged top edge.
