A dry lacquer sculpture with traces of gilding depicts the head of a Bodhisattva, a figure with downcast eyes and a dark, matte surface. Braided hair forms a band across the forehead above full cheeks and closed lips. Elongated ears flank the head, which is broken at the neck and crown. Two concentric ridges mark the base of the neck where small flecks of gold are visible against the dark material.
