Description

A very successful silversmith, Edward Wakelin may have been more a businessman than a craftsman or designer.
An oval silver tureen rests on four curved, leaf-shaped feet. Scrolling handles extend to our left and right, while a domed lid is topped with a bud-shaped handle nestled in leaves. Horizontal bands of decorative reeding encircle the body and lid. At the front center, an elaborate engraved heraldic shield is framed by scrolling foliage. The polished surface glimmers, showing dark highlights within the fine engravings and textured details.
