Description

A passion for detail and an equal commitment to the underlying symbolic content of his subject matter marks the style of William Clift. His work has centered on two principal themes: architectural subjects, such as his photographs of Mont Saint-Michel off the coast of northwest France, and landscapes, especially of the American Southwest, where he resides. Virtually all his photographs evoke an unusually strong sense of place, whether the subject is a vast desert landscape, the hall of a monumental American courthouse, or an intimate interior, as in this scene, which records quaint stenciling in an old-fashioned New England home.
