Did You Know?

Brice Marden is best known as a painter but has been making prints since he learned the technique as an art student.

Description

Although early on Brice Marden’s art was characterized by its rigid geometry, he later turned to looser, more organic forms such as those seen in this print. Its title references the Italian Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli, known for his graceful and harmonious style. Here, Marden used aquatint to produce winding and overlapping calligraphic lines that relate abstractly to the qualities he favored in Botticelli’s work.
