Description

A woman of high rank might have worn these twin fibulae on her shoulders, one fastening her inner garment on the right, the other her outer garment on the left. She might also have suspended them from her belt as decorative ornaments
A silver and parcel-gilt fibula, a brooch shaped like a vertical cross, features a semicircular head crowned with five animal heads. Within the head, two raised spirals sit above horizontal banding. A long, rectangular shaft extends downward, divided into three vertical columns. The outer gilt bands contain repeating geometric maze patterns, while the central silver band features delicate scrolling lines. The base comes to a triangular point.
