Description

For almost three decades, Texas-based photographer Keith Carter has concentrated on commonplace subjects-especially children and animals-that simultaneously take on a spiritual and often ominous presence in his pictures. In this evocative photograph, Carter filled the composition with the back of the head and upper torso of a young boy. The child watches a blurred figure, which appears to be man in a coat, walk away from him. One is left to speculate whether the boy is gazing at his father or the appearance of what he himself will become. The luminous light and rich tones of the print add to the overall sense of melancholy.
