Limantour 2: Evensong

Limantour 2: Evensong

Micah Schwaberow

(American, b. 1948)

Color woodcut

Sheet: 16.3 x 28.5 cm (6 7/16 x 11 1/4 in.); Image: 12.6 x 25.5 cm (4 15/16 x 10 1/16 in.)

Gift of The Verne Collection 2003.322

Schwaberow spent a year in Japan studying the color woodcut technique in the workshop of Toshi Yoshida (also in this exhibition). Schwaberow works on a small scale because "it forces me to condense what I’m trying to say. If you only have a small space to work in, you have to choose carefully and everything matters. I think of my work as...intimate glimpses through small windows."
