Description

A conceptual artist, LeWitt began drawing directly on walls in the late 1960s and early '70s in order to create works unconstrained by paper. He developed a system of ownership by which the buyer of the drawing receives a certificate and a rendering with directions for any other drafter to use. In this way, LeWitt opens up the work to the interpretation of the drafter. Although conceived by LeWitt, this particular version was accomplished by representatives from LeWitt's studio in concert with museum installation staff.
Fine, black pencil lines drawing a rectangle directly on a white wall. The rectangle is divided into four quadrants, each featuring evenly spaced pencil lines going in a different direction. The upper left corner features vertical lines and upper right horizontal while the lower left features diagonal lines moving up left to right and the lower right diagonal lines moving down left to right.
