A semicircular mother-of-pearl and gold folding fan patterned with intricate openwork flowers and grids features large butterflies with shimmering iridescent wings and gold outlines across the surface. Muted floral designs fill the spaces between the wings, while thin gold lines define the outer edges. A small gold loop and pin secure the base of the iridescent white piece.
