Light from a handheld flash highlights the figures here and sets them into relief.
After Larry Fink became friends with his neighbors in rural Pennsylvania, the Sabatine family, he was invited to all their family celebrations, and always came with his camera in hand. John, the patriarch of the family, is seen here. Shooting in their crowded kitchen during a birthday party, Fink had to get very close to his subjects and needed a handheld flash to supplement the room’s lighting.
