Elizabeth Murray is known especially for painting on unusually shaped canvases.
Alongside her career as a painter, Elizabeth Murray has been making prints since 1979. These gestural works feature a dynamic, hectic jumble of forms. This work belongs to Whazzat, a series of unique pastels drawn over lithographs created while Murray was visiting the Los Angeles-based printshop Gemini G.E.L. Figures and objects intertwine playfully, shifting between abstraction and representation. Here, Murray collaged 23 separate components and drew additions with colorful pastel.
