Description

For a concentrated period in the early 20th century, French artist Jacques Villon took up etching—especially color aquatint, used to produce the grainy tonal variation seen here. He experimented with different color combinations as he printed his work. This image aligns with Villon’s interest in Parisian society, showing a bureaucrat from the rural province of Nevers at a fashionable Parisian party.
