Did You Know?

With the artist Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes authored Du Cubisme (1912), the first major book explaining the Cubist movement.

Description

Albert Gleizes was among the early artists to experiment with Cubism after its invention by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. He focused primarily on modern life, such as the urban view seen here. The sheet presents a view across Paris extending into the far distance, punctuated by the Eiffel Tower in the distance and smoke pouring from a factory’s smokestack at left.
