Stoneware with marbled clay and transparent glaze
Diameter: 16.8 cm (6 5/8 in.)
Nancy F. and Joseph P. Keithley Collection Gift 2020.187
This dish features lively contrasting black and beige clay marbling underneath a transparent glaze.
With decorative clay marbling underneath a transparent glaze, this type of dish was the source of inspiration for Zeng Xiaojun’s painting (CMA 2020.146). The historic dish and contemporary painting make a striking pair and present an intriguing combination of poetry, pottery, and painting—past and present.
