Description

Martha Rosler’s Semiotics of the Kitchen takes the form of a parodic cooking demonstration a la Julia Child. In this video, Rosler picks up and names utensils, demonstrating their use with gestures that do not match their normal uses. Her performance for the camera thus transgresses the familiar system of everyday kitchen meanings and gendered domestic labor.
