Each year, The George Gund Foundation commissions a distinguished artist to photograph one of the foundation’s areas of interest in Northeast Ohio for its annual reports.

Description

Rania Matar, whose has focused on making portraits of women and girls, was commissioned in 2011 to photograph the clients and staff of Planned Parenthood in the Cleveland area. She was able to evoke the individual personalities of her sitters, despite their brief acquaintance and the institutional setting. Through these images, the Gund Foundation hoped to underline the critical role Planned Parenthood clinics play in providing affordable reproductive health care for women and emphasize the foundation’s long-standing interest in ensuring access to quality health care for all.
