Did You Know?

Anne Noggle photographed her family and friends, producing respectful but also unflinching portraits of women in middle and old age.

Description

Here, the harsh, unflattering side light on Donna Humble’s face shows us her sagging skins and wrinkles. She was 52 years old when this portrait was made. Noggle posed her pressed against a chain-link fence, as if trapped. Humble was a copywriter for a television station in Albuquerque for 30 years before retiring and moving to Ohio and later, Kansas.
