Did You Know?

Leon Borensztein was born in Poland, emigrated to Israel, and settled in the United States in 1977 at age 30.

Description

Having lived in two countries before settling in the United States, Leon Borensztein brought an outsider’s and insider’s perspective about what makes one an American. His series American Portraits presents a decidedly unglamorous, somewhat uncomfortable image of middle- and lower-class America. Here, two surprisingly dissimilar siblings pose uncomfortably before a studio backdrop. Borensztein once commented that his “black and white images reflect the alienation so typical of today’s America.”
