The ivory and pink vase by Yohei IV show his father’s “bright-jewel white porcelain” technique.

Description

In creating this kanpakuji (or "bright-jewel white porcelain") vase, Yohei IV has applied his father’s signature creamy translucent glaze in combination with underglaze pink gradation surrounding motifs in low relief over an ivory clay body. This method was used to achieve the creamy white of the stalks, leaves, buds, and flowers of the elaborate design of chrysanthemum flowers in diverse stages of bloom.
A pale cream porcelain vase with a soft pink blush features raised, molded chrysanthemums, its wide pear-shaped body tapering into a slender, flaring neck. The blossoms wrap around the lower half with thin, pointed petals radiating from textured centers, while jagged leaves and small buds wind upward. The glaze highlights the delicate relief of the flowers, which are depicted in various stages of bloom.
