Did You Know?

Photochrom is an ink-based process that produces color images from black-and-white photographic negatives.

Description

The Residence, several buildings that housed and served colonial officials, was put under siege during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the British East India Company. The British regained control in 1858 but left the ruins as a memorial to their fallen compatriots.
A horizontally oriented photochrom with soft, saturated colors depicts a landscape with ruined, peach-toned stone buildings under a pale sky. On the left, a crumbling tower flies a small flag. In the center, a cannon with white wheels sits on a grassy mound. To the right, a tall stone cross rises from a tiered base where a figure in white sits. A red-toned path stretches across the dark foreground grass.
