Description

Sitting by an artificial cascade in a palace, a woman smokes a hookah and enjoys a music performance with her attendants. She raises her left hand in appreciation of the musicians and turns toward a companion (sakhi) who also shares her enthusiasm. Three attendants stand behind her—one holding a box of betel leaves, while the other two hold a fly whisk and a fan.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and gold painting depicts nine women with light skin tones in an ornate white courtyard. At the center, a woman in a pink robe sits beside a waterfall. On our left, attendants stand holding an orange fan. On our right, musicians play a stringed instrument and a drum. Below, two women bathe in a pool. Architectural windows in the background look out toward a lush green garden.
