Did You Know?

Rainspouts in the form of mythical elephant-crocodiles (makara) hold yellow flags in their trunks.

Description

A king sits on a throne with a yogic band around his legs, listening to the music of two sages: a blue-skinned sage on a stringed instrument (vina), and a white-skinned one playing cymbals. A standing percussionist accompanies them on a drum. An attendant behind the king holds the royal canopy over his head.
A vertically oriented gum tempera and ink painting depicts figures with light and blue skin tones within a two-tiered structure with a red border. Above, white towers fly yellow flags against a black background. Below, against a red field, a light-skinned figure sits on a golden throne under a yellow umbrella. Left, three musicians—including a blue-skinned figure with a stringed instrument—perform, while an attendant stands on the right.
