Did You Know?

The mistress of the protagonist offers her rival a betel leaf to calm her down.

Description

Two women quarrel outside a house while the Nayaka (hero protagonist) watches from a safe distance. The woman wearing a red scarf appears to be the Nayaka’s wife or beloved, who has just realized her partner’s infidelity. In a fit of anger, she strangles the other woman, who would be the Nayaka’s mistress, and raises a leg to kick her.
A horizontally oriented tempera painting depicts the dark-skinned god Krishna standing center right in a translucent tunic and crown, holding a flute. To our left, two women with light skin tones stand in the doorway of a brown building, wearing orange, purple, and yellow garments. In the upper right, dark clouds and a faint horseman occupy a blue sky, while a decorative floral border runs along the top of the composition.
