Did You Know?

The ruler of Kota, worshipping Shri Nathji at the left, is identifiable by his distinctive muttonchops.

Description

Shri Nathji, the dark stone sculpture carved in high relief with its monolithic stele is here shown sumptuously dressed, wearing the square headdress of a bridegroom. His long tuft of hair, braided with flowers, swings to one side, while the end of his stole swings to the other, imparting joyous vitality and dynamism.
A vertically oriented gum tempera painting features Brij Nathji, a dark-skinned deity adorned with glinting gold jewelry and orange robes, centered in a black niche. Maharao Ram Singh II stands to our left with palms joined, wearing a navy robe patterned with gold flowers. To our right, a medium-toned attendant holds a feathered green flywhisk. The figures stand against a vibrant orange background framed by a thick red border.
